Remember that beautiful inauguration dress Michelle Obama wore to all the inauguration day festivities back in 2009? The designer was Mrs. Isabel Toledo, and I am so very excited about the release of her new book Roots of Style: Weaving Together Life, Love, and Fashion (March 6 release). The book shares the life of Toledo in the form of stories as well as illustrations created by her husband and amazing fashion illustrator Ruben Toledo.
Several years back I attended a tour of both Ruben and Isabel's work at the Museum of FIT, led by the featured artists themselves. I was inspired by how they each spoke so passionatetly about design and illutsration but what was most moving is how passionately they spoke about their love and respect for each other. It was beautiful.
I'm looking forward to see what more they have to share and can't wait to add this book to my library.
