Where? Originally from Djibouti and Somalia, born in Jonesboro, AR, raised in Dallas,TX, lived in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E, (how is that for random?) and currently residing in Dallas (might change tomorrow…not sure).
What do you do? During the day you can find me working in the Hotel/Hospitality Industry, but my passion is to work solely on my businesses which include: November Lily, a luxury soirée styling and lifestyle management company, and Le Souq (Boutique/Bazaar) the premier purveyor of unique gifts and fine accessories. I am also a city leader for CRAVE Dallas - CRAVE innovatively connects urban gals to the sassiest, gutsiest, most inspiring people they need to know in town.
What inspires you? I love the arts and good vibes; sounds, words and images (artistic vocabulary causes palpitations), traveling, meeting people from all over the world, daydreaming, being by the sea, hanging out in galleries, museums or other interesting architectural space. A bit of a nerd, hobbies include reading the dictionary, or say studying maps. Fresh flowers, typography, beautiful packaging, fine china, and exquisite fabrics, unique jewelry; the list could go on…but I’ll stop for now.
Why are you fly? I am fly because I stay true to myself always! I am never afraid to show my diversity, or celebrate my culture and tradition. Without culture, tradition, heritage life would be pretty bland for me.
I get a sincere joy out of helping people. Whether it’s through volunteering with local charities or styling someone’s special day; from wardrobe to dessert tables to favors and gifts, or maybe just by helping a friend find their creative niche. At the end of the day though, I just try to be the best mother to my son, daughter, sister, and friend God will allow me to be. I think that’s pretty fly.
Advice: I believe we are here on this earth for purpose, and it is our duty and goal to find out exactly what that purpose is. Some find it faster than others, but if you always follow your bliss, stay true to yourself, and seek guidance from God… things come together naturally!
I’ll leave you with a Somali proverb: He, who does not seize opportunity today, will be unable to seize tomorrow's opportunity.

I love seeing fellow artists, designers, or bloggers being featured for their talents and style. Check out Mengly Hernandez on the Madewell Styled be Real People section of their site. Her style is awesome and she looks gorgeous. Congrats, Mengly. Click here to see the other features. Also, visit her esty shop of goodies here, her blog Copperlace, and see one of my favorite tote designs from her collection here.

Welcome to a new week. Last week was so crazy for me with freelance work and still getting settled in MD, but I'm back with new flyness to share. Like this amazing jewelry from Assad Mounser. Love the encrusted necklaces adorned with chains, bullets, charms and beads. And those pins are great! Combining a mix of unique pins and brooches on a great blazer is always fun. The ones pictured above would be perfect for that look.

Bouncing Cats is a film about Abraham "Abramz" Tekya's dream to help the children of Uganda by using the culture of hip hop. With this passion Tekya started Breakdance Project Uganda (B.P.U.), a workshop that promotes unity and social change through dance and music. Bouncing Cats is narrated by Common, features interviews with hip hop artists such as Mos Def and K'Naan, and you'll catch the breakdance extraordinaire and founding partner, Crazy Legs, teaching b-boy classes. Check out the trailer and site to learn more about this fascinating story.

This chunky, mixed metal, multi-chain bracelet is the B-Side's Battle piece of the week at Ken & Dana Designs. Meaning, each week the designers come up with a dope experimental design and the featured piece is available for discounted purchase for one week only. This week is this cool Knight Bracelet. Love the concept and love the results.

I have a thing for boutique features and photos. I always love seeing how shop owners lay out their stores and create inspiring vignettes with clothes and accessories. So naturally I was drawn to this feature of Brooklyn boutique Harlow in Chains on NYMag.com. The photographer captured the essence of the store and definitely leaves me wanting to check it out on my own. I adore those little tops and romper from Chandi. See all the photos on NyMag.com. Also, click here to see Fly's boutique features.
