Our
very first feature is model extraordinaire Nikia Phoenix. With an
extensive portfolio that spans online media to television I'm sure
you've seen this gorgeous face at some point or another. She's a Fly
favorite because she embraces her natural beauty, she's kind, and quite
simply — the woman hustles hard.
Between walking the catwalk, gracing the pages of magazines like Ghubar
and i-D, doing ad campaigns for Melody Ehsani and becoming a muse for a
short animated film Nikia finds time to blog about her numerous modeling
opportunities and shares insight into her daily life. (I love her cute
post about celebrating National Doughnut Day at Krispy Kreme. A model
after my own heart!) She's also on Twitter and I must say I always enjoy
her positive tweets that seem to celebrate the simple pleasures of
life.
Fly is honored to have Nikia Phoenix as the first to answer the Fly 10 Questions. Enjoy!
How old were you the first time you fell in love?
Funny question. When was the first time I didn't fall in love? Ok seriously, I guess I was 15.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer, hands down!
Name one album or song you've been listening to lately.
The song, Burial, by Miike Snow's is on repeat. It's a little sad, but I can still dance to it. Very important.
Dream job opportunity?
I'd love to get paid just for being me whether that's in front of the camera, behind it, or writing. Whatever it is, I hope it allows me to help other people.
One place you would love to visit but haven't been to yet.
Chicago has been on my mind lately. I love places that have a colorful history.
Favorite hair product?
Not sure that I have one right now, since one product I like hasn't hit the market yet. So, do oil and water count?
Last clothing item you purchased?
A cute and cheap aqua skirt from Target. $3.74! I wanted to wear it out the store.
Is there a fashion trend you're loving right now?
Rompers. I haven't bought one yet, but I love them.
Favorite website, blog, or online shop?
Twitter keeps me up to date with what everyone's gabbing about. It's Cliff Notes, the AP wire, and the talk of a beauty salon all in one. It's been the key to a natural hair/black love community that otherwise I would know nothing about.
