Who? Tenneal Rochelle McNair (yes, I always introduce myself like that.lol.), 24.
What? I am currently finishing up my Master of Arts Management degree at Carnegie Mellon University, focusing on managing not-for-profits. I am also a future law student (starting this fall) and the proud owner of the Syl&Roc Boutique, a life-long dream finally realized.
What inspires you? I am inspired by fashion, art and all things beautiful — in the traditional and non-traditional sense. I am inspired by bold colors, unique patterns, and weird shapes. I am also inspired by people who fully exert (through actions) and cherish the freedom God has blessed us with — as it is not something we always had or will always have. But what inspires me most are women of great resilience — like my mother — who will always find a way to get up after being knocked down (again and again).
Why are you fly? I am fly because I do not accept defeat, but I do know when to take a loss. I am fly because I am over-determined, but I know when to take a rest. I am fly because I know my worth, will argue with you (to death) about how fly I really am, but I still acknowledge my many flaws. I am fly because I live out all of my dreams, including Syl&Roc, no matter how short-lived they are. Most of all, I am fly because I constantly search for ways to improve myself, I trust God in every decision, and I lift others up every chance that I get.
Advice: Educate yourself! Learn about yourself! And tell others who you are and what you know! Do not let others “figure it out” on their own because more times than not, they will misrepresent you. Therefore, as young women in this crazy, crazy world, we must learn to represent for ourselves, so that we can stop living in everyone else’s messed up images of us. Be yourself and learn to love yourself… and then everything else will fall into place.
