For the 4th of July weekend I went to Gary, IN to visit family and eat a whole lot of barbecue. While I was there my father and I stopped by the childhood home of Michael Jackson. There were tons of people there taking pictures, buying MJ t-shirts (yes there were vendors) and leaving behind mementos. I too left a little something, a small pink paper heart with a message. I couldn't help but think how the neighbors were handling all the press and visitors. See the pictures I took here.
To finish off the visit daddy and I drove about forty minutes north to Chi-town for their annual Taste of Chicago. It was a first for me, and a first at a taste of anything period. The weather was perfect, there were thousands of people and the food was aplenty. This is how it works, you buy tickets and pay to try different goodies with a certain amount of tickets (like going to a carnival). Here is a list of what I tried starting from the top down: shrimp spring roll, jambalaya, chicken tacos, chicken kabob with mango and mint chutney (from a Latin infused Indian restaurant, interesting), roasted corn on the cob and to finish it off delicious mango and lemon Italian ice. It was a very full and fun time.
