Shannon Riffe is the mastermind behind the lovely paper products line, RiffeRaff. I love her work and enjoyed hearing about how she developed her love for pretty things into a flourishing business. Here's her story:
Please tell us who you are and what you do?
Shannon Riffe, 26 and I design and handprint silkscreened paper goods. All inks used are non-toxic and the paper is 100% recycled, from a family owned mill in Michigan. Producing my products in the US and using American-made materials are a priority for me, as are eco-friendly production methods.
What inspired you to create RiffeRaff?
I've always loved drawing and only in the past couple of years did I realize that I could do something productive with all my doodles. I knew I wanted to produce the products myself, so I dabbled in batik and block-printing before settling on silk screening as the right method for my work. I see silk screened paper goods as a happy medium between mass produced digitally printed pieces and very high-end letterpress or engraving methods. {{Read more here.}}

I'm really in love with Marian Bantjes' lettering. Here is a campaign she worked on for Saks Fifth Avenue, called Want It. Commissioned by Pentagram she branded the campaign with her beautiful lettering, which covered everything from shopping bags, store walls, window-displays and store catalogs. Simply gorgeous.

Ayaan and Idyl (pictured bottom left) are twins who started their own clothing line, called Mataano. Last week I saw them on Oprah asking Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen for advice on making business decisions with their sister/business partner. I was curious to see what their line was like and was quite impressed with the fabulous colors and styles featured on their site. Definitely visit Mataano to see more.
