Who? Melissa Carew, 28
Where? I am from Lagos, Nigeria. I live in London, England.
What? I am a born teacher. Right now I am choosing to express that through fashion writing though I want to move into styling (this is a work in progress). I also blog and blogging has turned me into a sort-of photographer. I've had some work published so I guess by rights I can also call myself; I dare say it, a poet. I'd love to publish a book of poems. In the future, who knows? I'd love to mix creativity and philanthropy, those are my passions.
What inspires you? Life - all of it, the ups and downs, its subtleties and loudness. Art, words, people, beauty, love. The knowledge that all is possible through and by my Creator and of course the women in my family. I come from a family of strong women. Women who could separate mountains from the seas with one hand and cook a feast for a king with the other. Their strength had carried generations and in their care thousands came to be born. Their fingers had moulded the heads of kings and shaped the spines of queens. Their feet had travelled a million miles to new worlds braving distant seas. With their lips they built dreams and with their thoughts carved out new destiny's…
Why are you fly? Because I seek always to be authentic and like a prism, I am at my flyest when I let God's light shine through me.
Advice: Find the biggest dream you can and seek everyday to make this dream come true. Never settle for less than what you are and never take the path of least resistance. Nothing great came or will ever come out of being comfortable so don't seek comfort. Instead, seek to challenge yourself daily and through that you will continually learn and grow. Life is about service, doing for others. Every great person that ever lived, Jesus Martin Luther King, Ghandi, Mother Teresa, lived their life in service, so seek first to serve and good things will find you out.

I discovered this new brand of kinky/curly/wavy hair products on AfroBella and although I have yet to try them I totally adore the graphics created to identify what hair texture each is appropriate for. So smart, so simple and clean (and very cute).

Love all the pieces from Anna Sui's Fall '08 collection. I'm in love with her play on color, and the mixes of patterns from different ethnic groups are really beautiful.

Here is some new work from Maya Hayuk. She creates amazing murals with brilliant colors which pop off the canvases of gray buildings and other structures. I also love how she incorporates hand-lettering into some of her murals. See more of her beautiful work here.

All I can say is wow, the collections from Isabela Capeto are always so lovely and rich with pattern and texture. This black dress in the first two images is a dream! Totally wish I could rock it. And what about the dress below it, the details are amazing.
