I'm in trouble because there are so many amazing magazines out there and I keep buying them all. Amelia's Magazine is one those reads that you can always go back to and find something you missed before. The eclectic mix of illustrations, underground fashion, and music is seamless, and you gotta love that this issue's cover glows in the dark. Yaaay!
I started Fly Girl of the Week to inspire and encourage myself and other young women to be their creative best. The FGOTW is always a woman who is talented, positive, and excited about pursuing her dreams. Whether it's running her own design firm or making clothes for her kids, she is indeed fabulously fly. I've introduced some wonderful ladies as FGOTW but I am ready to meet YOU. I want you to nominate yourselves if you think you should be Fly Girl of the Week. (For this go round I will only be accepting self-nominations.)
Please read all the following information carefully.
Here are the requirements:
1. You must be at least 23 years old
2. You must have a creative background or creative interests
3. You must be able to submit at least 2 pictures of yourself
4. You must answer the Fly Girl questions

I feel any woman can be Fly Girl of the Week, but I will only be selecting ten (10) young women. Each nominee selected to be Fly Girl of the Week will receive a Fly Bag.

The other day I spotted this tote bag on the arm of my coworker as we were leaving out of the building. It's heavy duty, cute and good for the environment. When you purchase this tote, Hayden-Harnett donates $25 to global warming charities and $10 to American Forests. Sounds good to me.
These illustrations, reminiscent of informational diagrams, are from a 2005 AIGA Call for Entries book. I love how simple the shapes, lines, and two colors form dynamic graphic images.
I love this Happy Pets gallery installation where they provide the drawings and you provide the color.
My purchases were these vintage inspired, brightly colored bangles.
Check out the fabulous photography from Kate Spade's 2006 ad campaign. The use of color is very smart, and I am intrigued by the art direction overall.
I love checking out Forever 21 every now and then to buy cute little inexpensive tops and accessories. Yesterday I went to the store at 34th Street in Herald Square with my friend Ganeka. It was crazy in there. Not only was it filled to the brim with girls going bananas over the clothes, but the actual clothing was crazy with fun patterns and colors. Everything was inspired by African prints, bold graphics, and vintage designs. I loved it and was quite surprised at the selection, but I only walked out of there with four bangles and some earrings (I'll show those later). Anyway, the chaos in the store was perfect to distract the salespeople from me snapping pictures.
I've always admired people who can speak beautifully before an audience. Aisha is a spoken word artist/poet I used to work with at Hallmark Cards. I was always impressed with her writing skills, and how her speaking voice sounds like a firm but mellow breeze outside an opened window.

What makes you fly? An exquisite song, meal, or line of poetry. A kiss when it¹s from that deep, genuine part of the soul. Laughter, laughter, and more laughter!
Advice: Do not compromise your talents, your strengths, your beauty under any circumstances. The most caring thing you can do for anyone is to love yourself first.
When I find something I love I become obsessed with it. If it's clothing I wear it as often as I can, if it's food I will eat until I can't stand it anymore. Here are some things I am currently in love with now and possibly forever.
1.Desert Essence Coconut Hand and Body Lotion - This lotion is rich without the grease factor, and the coconut scent is so yummy. Oh, and you gotta love that it's organic. 2. Leather Hobo Bag - My mom bought this bag at the Feira Hippie Market in Rio de Janeiro over twenty-five years ago. I "borrowed" it from her closet and it has become my favorite bag ever. 3. Cane River - I love borrowing books from friends. I just started this one and always look forward to getting on the train to read more. 4. Composition Book (college ruled) - this is and will always be the perfect place to jot down ideas, thoughts and inspirations. 5. Shell Earrings - I only stopped wearing these earrings so often because I received another pair that I equally love. Before the new ones I wore these everyday! I bought them from my favorite earring guy on the street who sells them for five bucks. 6. Fiber One Cereal - Great for breakfast but better as a snack throughout the day and I love that you get over 50% of your daily fiber intake from one serving.
