In April I volunteered to review portfolios at the AIGA Baltimore Student Conference and I loved it. It was such a great opportunity for me to see what other students are doing and pass on some of the advice and information I have acquired over the years.
A month later the seniors in the portfolio course I taught attended a portfolio review at our school, and although I wasn't actually reviewing work I saw how extremely valuable this experience was for them — and for myself as well. I learned so much from the reviewers who came out to meet with our students.
Both opportunities inspired me so much that I felt it would be a great idea to have a Fly portfolio review event.
So here we are. On Wednesday, June 27th I am hosting the Pop & Fly Portfolio Review in Philadelphia.
I have invited some amazingly talented design professionals who are ready to share their expertise, knowledge, and constructive criticism with you. They come from diverse backgrounds. From fashion to on-air design, web to publishing; in-house designers to designers running their own studios, this is a group of people I truly respect and admire and know they have so much to share with you.
Whether you're a budding designer who just graduated, a student, or a young professional looking for fresh eyes on your body of work you are invited to attend this event. You'll have the opportunity to mix and mingle with some great professionals and peers, make connections, and of course have your portfolio critiqued.
Bring resumes, business cards and portfolios (digital or physical), dress professionally comfortable, and get ready for an evening of inspiration.

Building a portfolio is an important step to breaking into the visual communications industry, but sharing that body of work is also a crucial factor in actually pursuing your career in design and broadening your network.
The Pop & Fly Portfolio Review is a speed-dating style event where graphic design students and professionals will have the opportunity to connect with industry experts and also receive feedback on their portfolios. This exchange will allow you to gain more experience in communicating aspects of your work as well as talking about your skills and talents.
