Talented singer/songwriter Tif B shares with Fly a bit about her style and musical flavor.
Describe your musical style and does that influence your wardrobe style, if so how?
My music and visual style are definitely vintage inspired. Aesthetically, I'm a huge fan of the 70s, 80s and 90s. Above all I love the 1990s. I love denim, leather, lace, anything metallic and the color black and white. My iPod is crammed with singles and albums produced in the 1990s. A lot of the music that was produced around that time was informed by the 1970s. I sometimes feel like I'm channeling Owen Wilson's character in Midnight in Paris, but stylistically, I've found a way to merge the past and my version of the future.
I don't have a lot of stamps on my passport, but growing up in Brooklyn has given me a global experience within the five boroughs and I think that comes across in my music and personal style. I try to combine aspects of music and fashion without my various form of expression becoming devoid of uniqueness or flavor. When everyone is going right, I make that left turn.
It's the New Year, can you share one goal or wish you have in regards to your music?
It's crazy that I started working on music early January 2011. I've never written songs prior to this experience and I'm really grateful (and surprised) about the response. I've come a long way, but I still have a ways to go.
My goal is to build a rich, interior life that would further develop my skills as an songwriter, performer, musician and visual artist. Good things will come from that...a publishing deal immediately comes to mind!
I'm practically a one woman show, so I'm starting to develop a team of like-minded people. My fans have been really supportive and eager for a music video. My video for "(Love) Bound" is coming soon and there will be more to come. I hope to release more music in Spring 2012.
