Earlier this month I made my way down to Miami for Art Basel; a four day art show highlighting some of the world's galleries representing amazing talents in the visual arts. Along with the main event there were also off the beaten path happenings where local galleries and artists came together to curate exciting exhibitions, performances and workshops.
For me Art Basel was overwhelmingly inspiring. I saw works from artists I've followed over the years (since my days of art history courses in undergrad) and was introduced to contemporary talents new to the scene. The energy was incredible and a lot of the work was breathtaking.
I have lots of photos that I still have to sort through but wanted to share a collection that really took my breath away. It was the work of Sister Corita Kent. During her time working at a university in southern California she experimented with screen-printing to produce vibrant prints that explored visual messaging through typography and design.
When I came across her Circus Alphabet Prints at Art Basel I was blown away. I stood there for at least twenty-minutes admiring the color and bold graphic shapes of the letterforms. I was imagining her letter "A" (for Andrea of course) hanging in my office space one day. It would fit perfectly with my collection of prints.
