Who? Jade Elliot Floyd, 26 years old
Where? I live in the D.C. metropolitan area. I was born and raised in San Antonio, TX.
What do you? I work for an international public affairs company here in DC and I write for Not for Tourist's DC and DC This Week, but I devote all of my philanthropic efforts to the DC Arts and Humanities Education Collaborative and CREATE Arts Center in downtown Silver Spring. Since I was a little girl I was involved with the arts and my parents, teachers and school made an extra effort to surround me with art, cultural events and music to stir my brain cells. Today, I volunteer weekly at CREATE with children who need the same opportunities I had. I serve on the Board of Directors for the DC Arts and Humanities Education Collaborative because I believe art and music in the classroom are essential to the development of children. Yet sadly, they are the programs that are cut first when funding is low. Where would society be today without our architects, artists and musicians? I am committed to ensuring that today's children have the same opportunities as I did in the art community so we can inspire more young artists and musicians to paint, play and build their way into the 22nd Century.
What inspires you? Creativity. Everyone has something different to offer and it inspires you to try new things and appreciate everyone’s point of view and opinion.
Why are you fly? Appreciating that everyone you encounter has a value in your life and can teach you something about the world makes me fly. I really treasure the opportunity to meet new people, go to different places and learn about the complexities of the lives of people I encounter on a daily basis. And I take every opportunity to connect the people I meet with each other.
Advice: Always value yourself, because if you don't then no one else will. And welcome competition, because it only makes you stronger and ensures that you always challenge yourself. And be the best at what you do because if you aren't, someone can always replace you.
